How to Start Social Change: Using what you have, starting now

maple_production

This is an eight-week long dive that will give you skills to redirect what is happening in your community toward priorities that your community wants, with resources your community has access to. You will learn a now-proven method that enables your community to grow locally and engage globally effectively. The emphasis in this certificate is on starting the SEED-SCALE process.

Growing social change with what you have happens by more effectively organizing the dynamics in your community. To guide this process this certificate teaches participants how to use four critical principles: built from success (starting point); three way partnership (your team); evidence-based decisions (how to choose); behavior change (the results). These principles will be simply and understandably engaged through the lens of Emergence (a sub-theory of complexity theory). This is known as the SEED process.

SEED-SCALE offers a process by which almost any community can direct change underway within it, using resources they already have to respond to forces that are affecting them. Unlike other frameworks that presuppose money, mandate skilled workers, or insist on first establishing effective government, SEED-SCALE provides a process for change that any community can follow, once a collective community decision is made to begin. It is a standard process that leads to site-specific solutions. This week-long certificate touches base on all of the major points of SEED-SCALE that can lead to a much larger community overview.

Scaling up & Enabling Environments

Once social change starts in a community … the challenge comes how to grow it and keep it growing. This certificate equips participants to grow “a seed” of social change that has started in the community. The change will grow both in numbers (quantity) and improved lives for the community members (quality). The rising quality of life draws in a rising quantity of people so communities improve.
